The Welcome Station has been moved to the Fellowship Hall
and has been stocked with Welcome Bags for Christmas visitors. Bags are also available at the Contemporary
Service. Worship leaders need to welcome
visitors and direct them to Welcome Bags.
Updated brochures on Children’s and Youth Sunday School and Ministries
are still needed to be included in welcome packets and available for parents
and visitors. Adult Education
information needs to be updated for inclusion as well.
The Welcome Center needs to be staffed on Sunday mornings
before and after the 10:30 service. Door
greeters are also needed. Asking people
to sign up is NOT working.
I would like to suggest that Committees and Church Council
work together to evaluate what they are doing to promote Outreach and that
these Events be carefully scheduled and targeted to specific groups. ie: VBS in July; Target: Families with
Children.
One Suggestion for next Advent Season is to consolidate our
activity into one major outreach event such as a ChurchWide Event like
Bethlehem Village, where adults act as shopkeepers and Villagers in costume,
providing “shops” where visitors can make crafts, snacks, visit with the
shopkeepers about their trade, learn about the Village of Bethlehem and
ultimately make their way to the Manger.
There are Kits available for these Events through Group Publishing and
are available from the Conference Resource Centers. This would require participation from all
generations, adequate financial support and effective publicity to the
surrounding communities. It would need
to be well done to create an event that could become an effective tool for
outreach as well as something existing members of Trinity would look forward to
and be enriched by.
