There were approximately 20 people in attendance. Jeff opened the meeting stating that the purpose was NOT to eliminate the 8:00 service, but to better the attendance of all services to grow the church and increase fellowship among all members.
Observations and concerns:
·Those that attend the 9:00 service like the format: Contemporary music, closeness of the congregation.
·Those that attend the 8:00 service similarly enjoy the format in addition to the early hour allowing for other things the rest of the day.
·Having communion every week is a draw for some
·The banners in the sanctuary are appreciated and some felt more banners should be hung throughout the building (family room).
·The fellowship between all members is missed.
·A suggestion was to combine the two styles (traditional and contemporary) for one service.
·Perhaps a video could be made of the message and played at the service where the pastor would not speak on that particular Sunday. This would give both services the benefit of hearing the pastor’s message every week.
·Podcasting was suggested. (The 9:00 service is currently being podcast)
·An observation was made that church is now in competition with many Sunday activities such as retail and sports. Finding a chunk of time for families to attend church and Sunday school is sometimes a challenge.
·A suggestion was made to return to the “original” 8:00 format of more of a prayer service. Perhaps this would lighten the Pastor’s load.
·Some felt music was not absolutely necessary at 8:00 service.
·A comment was made: “If it’s broken, fix it; if it’s not, leave it alone.”
·Thanks and praises to Jeff for being a strong leader.
·Contemporary service of 9:00 was discussed with a suggestion of swapping times for the Contemporary and the Traditional service.
·The suggestion of combining both services (9:00 and 10:30) would not increase attendance, but perhaps have the reverse effect.
·Format for the 8:00 service is liked by most, and those in attendance would be very disappointed should it be no longer a Worship option.
